For Dunmore, responsibility means developing materials that are more recyclable, more resource-efficient, and more sustainable. In doing so, we look beyond the material itself. What matters most is how it is manufactured, processed, used, and disposed of at the end of its life cycle.
Europe is driving change in the packaging industry like no other market. The EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR 2025/40) fundamentally shifts the requirements for recyclability, the use of recycled materials, and material reduction. For manufacturers and buyers, this means that anyone developing packaging materials today must already be thinking about sorting, the circular economy, and secondary raw materials tomorrow.
For years, Dunmore Europe has been working to translate precisely these requirements into functional material solutions. Specifically, this means: paper-based barrier systems that combine recyclability with protective functionality; films containing post-consumer recycled content; coatings that reduce rather than add layers of material; and a development approach that doesn’t assess sustainability at the end of a project, but incorporates it from the very beginning.

More sustainable materials must perform reliably in their intended applications. They must be suitable for printing, processing, coating, or laminating, and must meet the requirements of the specific product.
Dunmore develops and manufactures coated, metallized, and laminated materials for these applications. Its product portfolio ranges from paper-based barrier solutions and recycling-oriented films to durable technical materials for labels, insulation, medical devices, and industrial applications.
Environmental responsibility doesn't start with the finished product. It begins with the question of how materials are developed, produced, and used—and how customers are supported in making sustainable choices.
Paper can play an important role in future packaging concepts. To protect sensitive products, it needs tailored barrier properties. Dunmore researches and develops coatings that functionally enhance paper for more demanding applications.
Recyclability is taken into account right from the start, during material selection and layer construction. The combination of materials, the coatings used, and the requirements of subsequent processing are all critical factors.
Circular material concepts look beyond the initial use of a product. They examine how materials can be used, protected, further processed, and integrated into existing cycles in the most meaningful way possible.
Dunmore also develops film solutions that contain recycled materials and feature functional coatings. One example is DUN-GREEN™, a printable PET film for label applications that contains more than 80 percent recycled material.
Sustainability also applies to manufacturing. Energy management, process control, and continuous improvement—certified to ISO 50001:2018 and ISO 9001:2015—help us systematically analyze and further develop our production processes.
Materials are produced within a network of raw materials, suppliers, manufacturing processes, and customer processes. That is why transparency, careful material selection, and reliable supplier relationships are essential to responsible development. Dunmore works with the recognized EcoVadis assessment system and the Integrity Next platform to ensure transparency in the supply chain.
The new EU Packaging Regulation sets specific requirements for recyclability, the use of recycled materials, material reduction, and labeling. For manufacturers and packaging designers, this means that the material choices made today will have regulatory implications tomorrow. The term “sustainable film” does not refer to a single material, but rather to a direction of development. Environmentally friendly films can be produced in various ways: through the use of post-consumer recycled material (PCR), through paper-based structures, through reducing the thickness of the film layers, or through coatings that combine multiple functional layers into a single layer.
For packaging developers and buyers, the practical question arises: Which solution makes sense for my application, and what compromises will I have to make?
Dunmore does not answer this question with off-the-shelf products, but through co-development: Working together with the customer, the company analyzes which barrier properties, pressure requirements, sealing characteristics, and recycling goals the packaging must meet, and which material system best achieves these objectives. Designing environmentally friendly packaging materials means making these trade-offs based on sound technical principles.
