Thin Film Photovoltaic Products
Our long history of manufacturing high performance films continues with our thin film photovoltaic technology. In addition to the more common c-Si photovoltaic module construction, DUNMORE has thin film photovoltaic solutions for second generation solar technologies. DUNMORE offers thin film pv backsheets for:

  • Copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS)
  • Amorphous silicon (a-Si)
  • Cadmium telluride (CdTe)
  • Dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC)

Regardless of the thin film technology, all of our DUN-SOLAR™ thin film photovoltaic backsheets are designed to:

  • Aid in the production of lowest cost-per-watt.
  • Conform to non flat surfaces promoting module flexibility.
  • Create a high vapor barrier to protect the thin film pv chemistry.

New Generation of Thin Film Photovoltaics
The second generation thin film solar modules reduce production costs using more efficient deposition technologies. Additionally, second generation thin film photovoltaics incorporate backsheet material, typically a film product to replace the traditional glass module backing. These thin film photovoltaic backsheets can be engineered with properties to increase cell efficiencies, like reflectance and dielectric strength, as well as act as a barrier to ensure a long life of the module.

DUNMORE thin film pv solutions exceed the challenges that come with the thin film photovoltaic cells more demanding requirements and will continue to stay in the forefront as the market continues to get pushed for higher and higher efficiencies. Already, in the short amount of time that solar energy has been in the forefront, the industry has made incredible leaps forward and remains one of the fastest growing industries in the world. Thin Film Photovoltaic Technologies
Many different technologies fall under the thin film photovoltaic category; DUNMORE has a backsheet solution for nearly all of them. It’s not necessarily efficiency that drives the market either; the main focus is cost per watt. Currently, the most common crystalline silicon modules offer the highest efficiencies but the production costs offset the cost per watt. That’s where thin film photovoltaic modules come in, where they fall short is efficiency but they more then make up the ground in production costs. As these technologies mature, thin film solar efficiencies will continue to increase and possibly surpass the industry leading c-Si solar cell.
